Social Media
Working across a variety of social media channels, the Office of Communications helps to define and strengthen the University's image. We highlight the work being done in UNE's various academic programs, showcase UNE's partnerships with various community organizations, celebrate the accomplishments of UNE students and faculty, laud the rich life beyond the classroom that UNE students enjoy, and share news of upcoming events and activities.
While much of the work the Office of Communications does to promote UNE's brand on social media occurs at the institutional level, we recognize that you may wish to communicate on a departmental or program-specific social media channel with your constituents. To facilitate this, we offer consulting services to help you get started, develop content, and build an audience. Prior to setting up UNE social media accounts, please get in touch with our Social Media Strategist to discuss UNE’s social media policy and best practices.

UNE Community Notices
UNE Community Notices is a weekly email sent to all employees every Friday. It includes University news, upcoming events, opportunities, and deadlines. The Office of Communications oversees final review and approval of all submissions. Notices are not distributed to students. To reach students, contact the Office of Student Affairs.
To submit a UNE Community Notice, complete the submission form by Thursday at 4 p.m. Submissions received after that time will be reviewed by the Office of Communications for inclusion in the following week’s notices.
Notices should be official University-sponsored or sanctioned information relevant to faculty, professional staff, and administrators. Any current UNE employee with a valid UNE email address may submit a notice. Appropriate submissions include:
- Upcoming events (lectures, receptions, trainings)
- Calls for volunteers or nominations
- Application or registration deadlines
- Campus updates and reminders
UNE Community Notices does not accept submissions from non-UNE entities, information intended for students, or content more appropriate for bulletin boards or departmental mailing lists.
Submissions should be written clearly and provide essential information in one or two well-organized paragraphs. Proofread all submissions carefully. The Office of Communications does not guarantee corrections to grammar, punctuation, or spelling, though it reserves the right to edit submissions for length or clarity. Unclear submissions may be returned for revision or excluded from email.
Complete the submission form by 4 p.m. on the Thursday before to be included in that Friday’s email. Submissions received after 4 p.m. will be reviewed for the following week.
- Plain text only — bold, bullets, italics, and other formatting are not supported
- No attachments — include full URLs (with https://) in the body of your submission
- Titles should be concise, written in title case
- Dates and times should follow: Thursday, Feb. 27; 2–4 p.m.
- Tag your notice with one of the following categories: Events, News, Training, Research, Lecture, Student Affairs, or Sustainability.
- The form requires both a submitter name and email and a contact name and email. These may be the same person or different people
Your department chair or supervisor should review and approve content before submission. All submissions are reviewed by the Office of Communications before broadcast. Submissions are rarely denied; if yours is, the Office of Communications will contact you and work with you to bring it into compliance.
If you catch an error after submitting, contact the Office of Communications as soon as possible — every effort will be made to correct it before the email is sent. Corrections after broadcast are not guaranteed but will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Submissions will appear once in UNE Community Notices. To request additional appearances, email edemmendaal@une.edu with your submission title and the dates you would like it to run. The Office of Communications has final say on the frequency any item appears.
